The Sealy News earned a host of awards at the Texas Press Association convention in Denton over the weekend, including five first-place plaques, second place in the overall sweepstakes and third place in general excellence.
Thursday, Trey Marik was announced as the next head baseball coach of the Sealy Tigers. Dane Bennett, who served as head coach the previous four seasons, will be remaining on staff.
Marik, a member of Bellville High School’s Class of 1988, most recently coached the Somerville Yeguas and made previous coaching stops in Columbus and Brenham. Somerville had gone winless in multiple seasons before Marik’s stint and in 2021, the Yeguas secured a playoff position as the fourth-place team in District 26-2A.
Weather permitting, the Texas Department of Transportation will begin a hot mix overlay project Monday, June 7, in Fayette and Colorado Counties, according to a Friday release.
