Gene “Pop” Maxwell was born Feb. 27, 1933, in Pritchett to F.W. Maxwell and Myrtle May (Brandon) Maxwell. He went to be with his Heavenly father on March 4, 2024 at the age of 91 years and 6 days. At the age of 18 months, he lost his dad and his mom re-married to Bill Strange. Bill was instrumental in influencing the core values and his love for him and his sister JoAnn. Dad graduated from Gladewater High School in Gladewater, Texas. He served his country from 1951 to 1953 in the US Army.

Dad worked for R.G. LeTerneau as a furnace helper. In 1968, he moved his family to Sealy, Texas to become the general manager of Scheindler Brothers Steel. He hit the pinnacle of his career when in 1975 he was offered a job as Project Manager of a new steel mill project and offered to move his family to Indonesia. He decided instead to change careers. He Retired and then he went to work at Leedo Cabinetry as Maintenance Manager for over 30 years and not retiring until his mid 80’s.

Pop passed on his mechanical and problem- solving skills to his sons, grandkids and great grandkids. Pop loved when the kids would call or stop by for his help to solve issues, or to help do the work.

Gene Maxwell and his wife Annie Hugh Maxwell were active members of First Baptist Sealy. His faith and walk with Jesus Christ are what carried him through difficult times, and it also sustained him for 91 years. He continued to live at the family residence on Eagle Lake Rd Sealy, until his going home to be with Jesus Christ.

Gene is preceded in death by his wife, Annie Hugh Meadows Maxwell. They had celebrated their 50 years of marriage at her passing, and youngest son, Joseph “Joey” William Maxwell. Pop is survived by his sons, Art and wife Gerri, Mart and wife Mary Ann.

Gene is also survived by his grandchildren and great grandchildren: Martin, wife Tara and children Aubrey, Eric and Colton; Braydon, wife Danika and children Gunnar and Royce; Megan, husband Bradley and children Tatum, Rostyn and Amberlee; Kip, wife Lauren and children Barrett and Kinley, grandson Colby and granddaughter Kelsie. Brother-in-laws Harold Meadows, Gary Cole, and Jim Martindale and nieces and nephews. Gene Maxwell also leaves behind many friends in the Sealy community. His joy each day was going to Little Triangle for his newspaper, breakfast at Sealy Truck Stop and then to Tony’s for supper. His hobbies were caring for his yard and tending to his dog Bubbles.

A Celebration of Life Services will be held on Tuesday, March 12, 2024, at 2:00 p.m. at the Knesek Brothers Funeral Home in Sealy. Visitation will be Monday, March 11 from 5–7 p.m. at Knesek Brothers. A graveside service will follow at Sealy Cemetery where Pop mowed in service for years.
