Youths sweep Smithville

Junior high bests Wharton

It was another wild weekend in the Colorado River Youth Football Coalition but both Sealy teams in action came away victorious.

The freshman Tigers shut out Smithville, 25-0, matching the highest number of points they scored this season. Smithville had Sealy outmatched in size, but the speed of Eden Jones and Jaxton Lafrance proved to be too much and both of them scored two touchdowns. Aiden Dailey Page also scored a touchdown but it was called back on a penalty, and Zack Baber scored an extra point.

Defensively, the Sealy Tigers were outstanding, giving up only one first down. All of the defensive players played well, with Carson Soto, Cinch Conner, Christos Garcia, Landen Cloud, Izaak Sanchez and Lane Cooper as standouts to name a few.

The junior varsity had a bye last week but on the varsity level, it was a 44-0 Tiger win with a different athlete scoring each time; Kane Killough connected with Ryland Ponce and Weston Cryan found Abraham Barrera for passing touchdowns with Ivan Cadena, Isaiah Dukes-Self, Cooper Osborne, Jadon Hernandez and Efrain Villagomez all recording rushing touchdowns.

On the other side of the ball, Elijah Sanders and Javien Grant both made several stops from the safety positions, Garrett Prause registered a big hit and Benjamin Barrera came up with a safety to end the scoring.

Of course, special teams are just as important and Romeo Uribe had several kickoffs and did a great job of putting the defense in a great position.

The junior high teams were also in action last week, kicking off their season against the Tigers of Wharton.

7th grade A team defeated Wharton, 20-0. DJ McBride led the way with 2 rushing touchdowns and over 100 yards on the ground. Blaine Fink added another rushing touchdown to seal the victory in the 4th. Defensive standouts were Noah Washington and Cole Crosby with an interception each. Also, Issac Tyler, Blake Irvin, and Caysen Bolden played a fantastic game on defense with a number of great tackles for losses. A team is 1-0 on the season.

7th grade B team defeated Wharton, 14-0. Ty Smitley and Travion Robbins led the way by scoring a rushing touchdown each. Also, CJ Woods led the team in rushing and converted a pair of two-point conversions. Defensive standouts were Ricardo Santana, Albert Flores and Juan Casas. B team is 1-0 on the season.

8th grade A team defeated Wharton, 36-18. Reid Miller set the tone early by returning the opening kickoff for a touchdown and the Sealy Tigers never looked back. Offensive standouts were Bryson Johnson who added two rushing touchdowns, Drayton Mazac hauled in a receiving touchdown and Zachary Barrientos ran for another score. The Sealy defense played a great game by forcing five turnovers and holding Wharton scoreless through three quarters. Kyle Willingham led the defense with two fumble recoveries and a long fumble return. A team is 1-0 on the season.
