The Bellville Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 6522 sponsors the Voice of Democracy competition on an annual basis. This is for senior high school students who prepare a written essay, then recording a broadcast script three to five minutes in length. This year’s theme was ‘Why My Vote Matters.’ Pictured from left are Dewitt Nehrkorn, Post Commander, Bruce Harrison, VOD Chairman. Winners for 2018-2019, Julianne Carey, Providence Preparatory School, sixth place at Post level and a $300 scholarship certificate. Casey Prowell, Bellville High School, fifth place at Post level and a $300 scholarship certificate. John Hendrix, Bellville High School, second place at Post level and a $700 scholarship certificate. Kirsten Benignus, Bellville High School, fourth place winner at Post level and a $500 scholarship certificate.
