Six Tiger footballers add all-state honors

The Texas Sports Writers Association has released their all-state lists for each classification and there were a half dozen players from Sealy announced in class 4A's group.

All year, Garrett Redden and Ivan Bolden were two of many in black and gold that helped Sealy to the season it had and both earned a spot on one of the teams.

Redden, still only a junior, cracked the second-team roster to add onto the accolades that included a first-team all-state nod from the Texas Associated Press of Sports Editors as well.

Bolden, too, added a third-team TSWA all-state honor to a laundry list of accomplishments from his senior year, building on top of his district MVP award.

The running back found his way to the end zone in every game of the year and broke his single-game personal record in Brazosport, registering nearly 300 yards.

Four more Tigers produced campaigns that earned them an honorable mention on the squad, three of whom closed out their high school football careers with this title.

Arturo Hernandez held down the right tackle spot on the offensive line and also garnered honorable mentions on the Texas Associated Press of Sports Editors' list as well.

He provided some of the protection that allowed quarterback Garret Zaskoda to do what he did, ultimately ending on this list as well.

The senior signal-caller also grabbed up a spot on the first team all-district squad and will turn in his helmet and shoulder pads for a baseball hat and glove when this calendar year switches to fall as he will head to Rice University to join the pitching rotation.

One of his top targets all year was classmate Clay Roberts and he was honored accordingly with this honorable mention.

The one other Tiger on this list that did not play his final year last season is Hunter Clark who was also honorably mentioned on the Texas Associated Press of Sports Editors' all-state list.

The junior linebacker will return, alongside Redden, to play key roles in head coach Shane Mobley's defense yet again next year and will look to replicate last year's results over again in what will be their last go around.
