To the editor:
The 35th annual Sealy Tiger Booster Club Golf Tournament to assist graduating seniors was another huge success. It is the longest running endowment scholarship tournament in America and was started by T.J. Mills in his first year as athletic director/head coach in Sealy.
There were 57 three-person teams playing July 20 and included players from Sealy, Katy, Bellville, Port Aransas, San Antonio and Bryan. Many of the golfers were friends of Coach Mills while others were there to support the tournament cause.
This tournament could not take place without the countless number of volunteers putting in time and dedication. Volunteers included the Mills family – daughters Cortney and husband Jared Janicek, Kelly McNickle and Casey, Billy and Mona Norris; many coaches led by Athletic Director Shane Mobley, Russell Dziadek, Ray Dabney, Lonnie Goad, Chris and Cody Caruthers, Dane Bennett, Jeff McDaniel, Jeremy Pelz, Teague Kowalski, Anthony Branch, Kamm Coker, Jason Luckett, Richard High, Clark Harrell, Giles Montgomery, Jeremy Phillips, Garry Beveridge, Michelle Braden and Kim Boyd. Karen Naida and Lavinia Owen manned the registration table and made sure things ran smoothly.
Much appreciation goes to the people getting up really early to prepare the delicious food for the golfers and workers: Boomer Brune, Toby Roberts, Gary Pless and Mark and Lori Faldyn.
The Sealy Tiger Booster Club would like to thank Matt Webb and his workers for having the golf course ready to play. The Mills-Seals tournament was the first event at the golf course since Hurricane Harvey caused massive flooding. Thank you also to the SFA staff – including Tim Mewis, Trey Carter and Stacey Harger – for tournament set-up.
Last but not least, a big thank-you to the numerous hole sponsors and businesses who donated door prizes, food, beverages and the Frio tumblers as tee prizes. Thank you to Bill’s Country Market for supplying the food, Visual Promotions for the Frio tumblers, Mike Hopkins Distribution for the drinks, Ooh La La Bakery for the cookies and Ryan Ford for the hole-in-one sponsorship.
Hole sponsors included Athletic Supply, Baja Alliance, Citizens State Bank of Sealy, Cliff Jones RV/Mahindra, Xtreme Roofing, Fred Roberts & Associates, friends of San Felipe de Austin Historical Site, H&B Appraisal-Jim Havel and Adam Burttschell, Logiscapes, Ranch Country Homes, Reichardt Construction, Riverside Tire Center, San Bernard Electric Co-op, Sealy Concrete Inc., Seidel-Schroeder, Stan Roberts and Associates, Stanford Construction Services, Sun Coast Resources Inc., Texas Trust Real Estate, T.J.
