The Tigers started the month of March going 1-3 in the Conroe Tournament but bounced back five days later when they began the La Grange tournament on March 8. Sealy played every game close but swept the contest beating Waller, La Vernia, Navarro and Fulshear.
Their first win was against Waller in a tight 5-4 game. Sealy grabbed the 3-0 lead in the fourth inning but immediately lost it as Waller tied it up in the top of the fourth. The Tigers responded in the bottom of the same inning by scoring one run and adding another in the bottom of the sixth to tie up the victory.
Justin Eckhardt pitched five innings allowing all three runs. Junior Garret Zaskoda led the team with two RBI on two hits.
Their next game against La Vernia was a pitchers’ duel with Zaskoda this time taking his talents to the mound. He pitched five scoreless innings and struck out seven but the Tigers were unable to produce any offense and went into the sixth inning with both teams tied at zero.
Zaskoda’s fellow junior Hunter Kelley broke that tie in the bottom of the sixth when he drove in the only run of the game. He would also go on to pitch the final two innings of the 1-0 victory.
After climbing to a 4-1 lead in their next game against Navarro, senior Reed Langton looked to finish with the complete game but was pulled in the sixth inning after allowing two runs. Sealy managed to hold on for the 5-3 win.
The Tigers final win of the tournament saw another senior take the mound in Greg Main. Main pitched five scoreless innings before he was pulled and the Tigers let up three runs in the final two innings. Sealy went into the bottom of the seventh down 3-2 but tacked on two runs to win the game 4-3.
After the tournament, Sealy’s record sits at 9-3-1 on the season. They will play Navarro in a doubleheader March 15 before starting district play against rival Bellville on March 20.
