The Sealy High School Tiger Stage Company will present the first show of the 2020-2021 season Oct. 22-25.
The show, entitled “The Gentleman,” is an adaptation of Moliere’s Bourgeois Gentleman. It is a fast-paced comedy about a gentleman, Monsieur Jourdain, who seeks to be respected by the aristocracy and goes to extreme measures to prove himself worthy of their attention.
His wife, Madame Jourdain, is opposed to his tactics and makes fun of him at every opportunity. He is taken advantage of by several opportunists and finally receives his dream – or so he thinks – as a part of an elaborate trick played on him by a servant. This comic farce runs approximately one hour, and tickets are $7 and can be purchased at the door.
Tiger Stage Company has made great efforts to present a show following TEA, state and Sealy ISD guidelines. Like all gatherings, seating will be limited to current state capacities and the audience members will be socially distanced within Golson Auditorium. However, there should still be ample seating for the audiences.
Rehearsals look different, as well. Actors rehearse wearing clear plastic shields and must sanitize before and after the rehearsals. In order to accommodate potential disruptions to the cast due to quarantines, the show has two casts for the larger roles. If one student has to quarantine, their double can attend rehearsal – or even performances – without affecting the quality of the performances.
While the actors will perform on stage without masks or shields on show nights, the backstage crew will wear their masks. In addition, actors will mask up when they leave the stage. Although there are actors sharing roles, they will not be sharing costumes as a precaution. This has made it necessary to obtain over 35 period specific costumes for the show.
The show will run on Oct. 22 and 24 at 7 p.m. and on Oct. 25 at 2 and 5 p.m. For more information, contact Erin Moore at Sealy High School at 979-885-3515 or firstname.lastname@example.org.
