In the first action of the season for the Sealy boys’ golf team, eight Tigers were split into two teams and both finished within the top 10 of the team competition of the Sealy Invitational played on The Club at Falcon Point in Katy Monday afternoon.
Senior Cade Fink represented the Sealy Black team with a third-place finish individually with a score of 89, tying golfers from El Campo, Columbus and Caldwell. Classmate Drake Grigar was the top finisher for the Sealy Yellow squad, turning in a 110 for 39th individually.
The Sealy Black team, made up of Fink (89), freshman Garret Nedd (102) and sophomores Brock Montier (108) and Reed Dittert (115), compiled a team score of 414 which was good enough for seventh in the team competition. In front of them were Columbus, El Campo, Bellville, Needville, Sweeny and Hallettsville.
Sandwiched in between them and the Sealy Yellow team were Edna and Paetow before the Tigers who checked in with a team score of 469. Grigar (110) led the way in front of freshmen Trace Ashorn (117), Brayton Beam (118) and Joseph Strickland (124).
Sealy girls golf coach Lonnie Goad mentioned the weather didn’t make anything easier Monday afternoon, noting it was “a very difficult course; probably the hardest course they will play all year … It was a very windy day that also made the conditions tough.”
The Tigers hit the course earlier this week already for the next action of the season, this time at Copperas Hollow in Caldwell on Tuesday.
