Each year, the Texas High School Girls Coaches Association hands out awards for sportswriter of the year, one for newspapers with circulation above 25,000 and another for a paper with a circulation below that number.
For 2019, the Division 2 sportswriter of the year is The Sealy News’ own Cole McNanna.
Sealy girls’ basketball head coach Anthony Branch nominated McNanna at the last board meeting and Executive Director of the Association, Sam Tipton, made the news official last Wednesday.
Branch extended his appreciation for McNanna’s coverage expanding past solely covering boys’ athletics and made sure to have that token personified with this award.
McNanna took over before this school year started and graduated as Curry College’s journalism student of the year for 2018.
