Sealy and Wharton High Schools’ tennis courts played host to a quad meet last week with the Brazos Cougars and Rice Raiders all clashing.
The Wednesday schedule had Rice Consolidated in town for a morning group of matches while Brazos made the trip for afternoon matches that mainly went in favor of the hosts.
Final results were not available at press time, but head coach Lynda Mauney added that both visiting opponents only managed to win a match or two before it was all said and done.
This quad meet also served as the final tune-up ahead of this week’s District Meet, which will also be hosted in Wharton, this Thursday and Friday.
The winners from there will head to Corpus Christi for the Regional Tournament April 18 and 19 before the State Tournament begins May 16 and 17 in College Station.
A seeding meeting was held earlier this week to determine who will land where and receive which matchup. Mauney has been seeing improvement throughout the year and will look to continue that upward trend by putting the right pieces together to set up her team the best way possible.
Rachel Faldyn and Tina Pham served as the girls’ doubles pairing for the Tigers while Jonah DeLozier and Brendan Beckendorff teamed up for a boys’ doubles pairing.
J.T. Rassette and Austin Keeton represented the other boys’ doubles pair while Macey Feland and Carlos Godoy competed in mixed doubles. Tiger of the Week Kylie Patrick took care of business in girls’ singles per usual.
