Tigers earn 2nd-place finish in Tennis Districts

Sealy opens Bi-District round with Brazosport

Although it was challenging to find an allotment of time where rain wasn’t falling, the District 23-4A Team Tennis competition did indeed go in the books to move on to the Bi-District Playoffs.

Split between Oct. 2 and 3, the Sealy Tigers were in the midst of a battle with the Fulshear Chargers, the top-ranked team, at their court. The home team showed why they were the No. 1 seed by dropping only two matches.

However, with a win over the Needville Blue Jays already under the Tigers’ belt, a second place finish was the worst they could finish in the district, which was their final resting spot.

Both of the wins came from the doubles matchups, split between the boys and girls sides. Cameron Eschenburg/Carlos Godoy (6-4, 6-3) and Kylie Patrick/Macey Feland (6-2, 2-6, tiebreaker 10-5) served as the lone representatives in the win column.

Again, records will reset and teams will square off with opponents outside of their district with the Bi-District Playoff tournament starting Wednesday morning.

Sealy will head out bright and early to make it to Wharton for a 9 a.m. start time with District 24 foe, Brazosport. The winner of that matchup will get a bye through the Area Final and will head right to the Regional Quarterfinals against the winner of Livingston-Needville.
