Junior Brianna Gallaher won first place in the 3,200 at the Kinkaid Relays in Houston on March 8. The meet had approximately 16 schools attending and Gallaher raced against seven runners. She placed third in the 1,600 against 30 runners. Her 3,200 time was a season-best 11:46 and her 1,600 time was also a season-best 5:36.
Josh Poorman, a freshman at Faith Academy, ran a personal best 11:28 in the 3,200 placing 12th out of 20 runners and a personal best in the 1,600 5:13 placing 20th out of 30 runners.
Bellville baseball and softball
After losing to Hudson 10-3 on March 3, the Brahmas’ baseball team found its stride again beating Navasota 13-3 and then Waller 5-2 to bring their season record to 4-2-1. It was a welcome performance for Bellville as they had been struggling offensively for most of the season. The Navasota performance marked the first time they scored in the double digits since Feb. 24. Their next game is on March 15 against East Bernard and then the Brahmas will travel to Sealy to play their rivals on March 20.
The Lady Brahmas’ softball team has had a good streak of games since playing Bay City on Feb. 24 going 5-2-1. Their next win after losing to Bay City came against Weimar 4-1 and then the Lady Brahmas tied against Giddings 2-2. The team found their offensive prowess after that beating Yoakum and Fort Bend Dulles 12-2 and 13-7 respectively. They would drop their next two games against Pasadena Memorial and Kinkaid. After a 9-5 win over Van Vleck, the Lady Brahmas will play Stafford on March 23 in their last home game of the regular season.
Blinn College men’s basketball fell just short of the Region XIV championship game despite outscoring Kilgore College in the second half. Kilgore eliminated Blinn from the NJCAA Region XIV Tournament by the score of 63-60 on Friday night at the John Alexander Gymnasium.
“We had a tremendous season and I am very proud to be the head basketball coach of Blinn College with student-athletes like we had this year,” Scott Schumacher said. “We played a tremendous game tonight and fought until the very end, but just came up a little bit short.”
With the loss, Blinn ends the season with a 20-12 overall record and went 9-10 in Region XIV regular season play.
Blinn baseball and softball
Blinn College baseball swept Alvin Community College in the three-game conference series after winning both games of Saturday’s doubleheader at Leroy Dreyer Field. Blinn opened the doubleheader with an 8-3 win and closed it out with a 7-6 victory.
With the pair of victories, Blinn improves its overall record to 12-7 and 8-1 in Region XIV play.
No. 15 Blinn College softball scored 35 combined runs and pitched one shutout in sweeping a doubleheader at Coastal Bend College by the scores of 23-0 and 12-2 on Saturday afternoon.
