The Bellville Brahmas boys basketball team resumed play after taking eight days off for Christmas break against Smithville on Dec. 30 and lost 42-36. The Brahmas’ first game of 2018 came against Giddings three days later but the result was another loss this time by a score of 58-49. The Brahmas made it a competitive matchup in the first half but their offense faltered in the second managing to score just 18 points over the last two quarters. They finally snapped their losing streak on the road against Fayetteville beating them 46-37 and extending their win streak to two beating La Grange the next day. Bellville managed to keep La Grange from scoring over ten points in a quarter until the fourth in which they scored 16. The Brahmas lost to Wharton the next day at home 58-47 to drop their record to 7-6 on the season.
On the girls side, the Lady Brahmas were hoping to put their Dec. 22 68-16 Navasota loss behind them but that holiday wish didn’t come true. Their first game back from break was on Jan. 2 against Somerville which ended up being a 34-14 loss. Three days later, the team played Columbus at home and their offensive struggles continued as they fell 30-21. The loss dropped their season record to 5-15.
The Brahmas varsity boys team started their season on Jan. 2 in the Willis Wildkat Showcase
Tournament with a 2-2 tied against the Porter Spartans. The next day the team faced Atascocita and lost 1-0. The Brahmas won their first game of the season in the final game of the tournament in a big 6-1 performance against Anahuac.
The girls soccer team played their first game of the season on Jan. 4 against Dobie and lost 4-0. Their next game will be on Jan. 11 against La Grange
