The Bellville Brahmas boys basketball team resumed play after taking eight days off for Christmas break against Smithville on Dec. 30 and lost 42-36. The Brahmas’ first game of 2018 came against Giddings three days later but the result was another loss this time by a score of 58-49. They finally snapped their losing streak on the road against Fayetteville beating them 46-37 and extending their win streak to two beating La Grange the next day. Bellville managed to keep La Grange from scoring over ten points in a quarter until the fourth in which they scored 16. The Brahmas lost to Wharton the next day at home 58-47 to drop their record to 7-6 on the season.

On the girls side, the Lady Brahmas were hoping to put their Dec. 22 68-16 Navasota loss behind them but that holiday wish didn’t come true. Their first game back from break was on Jan. 2 against Somerville which ended up being a 34-14 loss. Three days later, the team played Columbus at home and their offensive struggles continued as they fell 30-21. The loss dropped their season record to 5-15.
