In their last game before heading into Christmas break, the Bellville Brahmas boys basketball team took on the El Campo Ricebirds on Dec. 22 at home. The Brahmas were coming off a big 79-53 loss on the road against Navasota three days earlier and were looking to prevent falling to a 4-4 record. The Brahmas jumped out to an early lead against the Ricebirds finishing the first quarter up 16-4. El Campo managed to shrink the lead in the third quarter to 32-23 after outscoring Bellville by five points. They also won the fourth quarter 21-20 but it was too little, too late as the Brahmas walked away with the victory. Bellville’s next game is at home against Giddings on Jan. 2.
The girls varsity basketball team won their second straight game on Dec. 19 against Brazos in a tight 26-25 victory. The Brahmas were held scoreless in the first quarter but fought their way back into the game in the second going into halftime down 14-9. The Brahmas captured the lead heading into the fourth quarter up 22-20 and managed to hold the Cougars to just five points in the fourth to secure the victory. Senior Kenesha Turner led the team in scoring with 10 points while sophomore Kearston Carter led in rebounds with five. The team’s next game is on the road against Sommerville on Jan. 2.
