Bellville basketball

The Bellville varsity boys basketball team celebrated an overtime victory against the East Bernard Brahmas on Dec. 12 45-44 to bring their season record to 4-1. Bellville climbed to an early 19-9 lead at halftime but East Bernard tied the game up after a fierce 16-point fourth quarter. Bellville won the overtime period 9-8. The team couldn’t carry the momentum into their next game when they traveled on the road to take on West Magnolia. Bellville lost the game 63-38 to bring their record to 4-2. The Brahmas next game is on Friday against El Campo at home.

The varsity girls basketball team saw their losing streak extended to five on Dec. 12 in a double-overtime loss to Gonzales at home. Down 22-16 at halftime, the Brahmas battled back largely thanks to a 16-point third quarter and holding the Apaches to just eight points in the second half. Neither team scored a basket in the first overtime and Bellville couldn’t find any offense in the second overtime either. Gonzales scored five points to win the game 35-30. The streak was finally broken three days later when the Brahmas won their next home game against the Weimar Wildcats 41-34. The Brahmas pulled out to 19-16 lead at halftime and never gave up the lead.

Brazos basketball

The Cougars varsity boys basketball team saw their win streak come to an end on Dec. 12 in a 56-54 road loss to Tidehaven. Brazos looked to bounce back from the loss against Sealy a few days later but fell again to the Tigers 50-49. Both of the close losses dropped their season record to 9-3. They will resume play after Christmas in the Somerville Tournament starting on Dec. 28.
