Soundoff to Sealybration continued last week as Ryan Brown, Chris Ryan, Bubba Westly and Gary Elliott performed for a chance to win a $1,000 cash prize and a chance to perform at Sealybration in July.
Bubba Westly and Chris Ryan are moving forward to the semifinals scheduled for March 6.
“After a wild discussion and some wild results, the two acts going on are Bubba Westly, who was overwhelmingly the favorite with the judges and the fans, and Chris Ryan,” said Sealy High School band director Rolando Cantu, who has served as master of ceremonies for open mic night each Wednesday night and hosts the Soundoff competition. “The fans are the ones that are deciding this. You guys have really been the ones who are the deciding factor.”
Slated to perform this week were Annabelle Lerma and Blane Fisher, Laz and Katie, Carson Jeffrey and Daniel DeWeese.
Two artists will be selected from that group to go up against Ryan and Westly in the semifinals March 6. A winner will be selected Saturday, March 9.
The Soundoff competition is held at 8 p.m. Wednesdays at Saddleback Saloon and is sponsored by The Sealy News, Sealy Community Foundation and Saddleback.
Competitors are allowed to perform up to five songs, as members of the audience cast votes for their favorites. Additionally, judges representing each of the sponsors, score the musicians based on song choice, appearance and audience response.
