Sixteen Austin County students awarded A&M scholarship

The Austin County A&M Club announced 16 recipients of scholarships for the 2019-2020 school year, citing superb academic and extracurricular achievements. Seven Sealy High School seniors, six Bellville High School seniors and three current college students, two from Sealy and one from Bellville, were honored.

The Scholarship Committee recently met and reviewed all of the applications that were submitted for the 2019 – 2020 school year. Austin County is indeed fortunate to have the caliber of students that were represented by these applications. The Scholarship Committee would like to encourage all eligible students to apply again next year.

Brendon Beckendorff, Danielle Bersche, Kirsten Benignus, Hunter Clark, Jonah DeLozier, Elizabeth Eckelberg, Kayla Froebel, James Gassiott, Lillian Hohlt, Cody Manna, Faith Martin, Paige Moyle, Conner Neumann, Pamela Puente, and Allison Wehring were selected as scholarship recipients from the Austin County A&M Club. Carter Cryan was selected as the recipient of the Joe Ed Burttschell Memorial Scholarship.

Brendon Beckendorff is the son of Beverly and Travis Beckendorff and is a senior at Sealy High School. He plans to major in Petroleum or Civil Engineering. His accomplishments include National Honor Society Officer, Boys State Councilman, and Varsity Boys Tennis MVP.

Danielle Bersche is the daughter of Melissa and Ken Bersche and is majoring in Agriculture Economics. Her accomplishments at A&M include Aggie Southern Darlings and a 4.0 GPA for freshman year.

Kirsten Benignus is the daughter of Cari and Jason Benignus and is a senior at Bellville High School. She plans to major in Kinesiology – motor behavior. Her accomplishments include National Honor Society Officer, Bellville Brahmadora Drill Team Captain, and class officer.

Hunter Clark is the son of Kimberly and Dennis Clark and is a senior at Sealy High School. He plans to major in Biomedical Science. His accomplishments include National Honor Society, Regional UIL Number Sense, and Varsity Football and Baseball.

Jonah DeLozier is the son of Bonnie and Christopher DeLozier and is a senior at Sealy High School. He plans to major in teaching and coaching. His accomplishments include Varsity Tennis MVP, Percussion Captain for Sealy Marching Band, and Texas Boys State.

Elizabeth Eckelberg is the daughter of Tracie and Chad Eckelberg and is a senior at Bellville High School. She plans to major in communications and business. Her accomplishments include Bellville High School Student Advisory Member, National Honor Society, and BHS Yearbook editor-in-chief.

Kayla Froebel is the daughter of Sandra and Bryce Froebel and is a senior at Bellville High School. She plans to major in Public Health. Her accomplishments include National Honor Society, Bellville FFA, and Softball.

James Gassiott is the son of Mary and Tim Gassiott and is a senior at Sealy High School. He plans to major in Business. His accomplishments include Cross Country Captain/MVP, Special Olympic Coach, and Varsity baseball.

Lillian Hohlt is the daughter of Crystal and Ronnie Hohlt and is a senior at Bellville High School. She plans to major in Applied Mathematical Sciences-Statistics. Her accomplishments include National Honor Society, FFA Nursery/Landscape National Title, FFA Dairy Cattle Evaluation and Senior Chapter Conducting state champion.

Cody Manna is the son of Dennis Manna and Shannon Bubak and is a senior at Sealy High School. He plans to major in Petroleum Engineering. His accomplishments include UIL Calculator Application Regional Finalist, National Honor Society, and First Team Academic All-District Football/Basketball.

Faith Martin is the daughter of Beth and Roy Martin and is a senior at Bellville High School. She plans to major in Interdisciplinary Studies – Education. Her accomplishments include Bellville FFA Star Greenhand, FFA Lone Star Farmer Degree, Austin County 4H Beef Quiz Bowl State champions, and Bellville FCCLA member.

Paige Moyle is the daughter of Abby Lynn and Brian Moyle and is planning to major in Geology. Her accomplishments at Blinn College include Chancellor’s List, Outstanding member for Thi Theta Kappa, and Drum Major for Blinn College Buccaneer Marching Band.

Conner Neumann is the son of Natalie Jones and Scott Neumann and is majoring in Agricultural Economics. His accomplishments at A&M include Operations Executive Vice President for Texas A&M, Finance Committee Chair for the Texas A&M University Student Senate, and Dean’s List.

Pamela Puente is the daughter of Maria Cerda and Jorge Cerda Munoz and is a senior at Sealy High School. She plans to major in Allied Health. Her accomplishments include National Honor Society, Tigerette Lieutenant Officer, and JCDA Jr. Catholic Daughters of America.

Allison Wehring is the daughter of Meredith and Dallas Wehring and is a senior at Bellville High School. She plans to major in Finance. Her accomplishments include Academic Excellence all four years, All-District Academic for tennis and volleyball, and Tennis MVP junior year.

Carter Cryan is the son of Amy and Stephan Cryan and is a senior at Sealy High School. He plans to major in Business. His accomplishments include National Honor Society, President of the Sealy High School Fishing Club, and Engineering program.
