SHS choir students honored

So far this year the Sealy Choir Program has had tremendous success.

Starting at the beginning of the year, around September, the group started auditioning for the All-State Choir at the District level.

Seventeen singers went to the competition, and 16 advanced to the regional level. From that level, 10 advanced to Area.

From there, two boys made the All-State Choir. This is a massive competition for the state of Texas. From the first audition there were more than 16,000 singers auditioning, to around 600 making up the All-State choirs. Blake Weber and William Mock are both seniors at Sealy High School and have been part of the All-State choir for two years in a row.

They will be heading to San Antonio on Valentine’s Day to begin a three-day process of rehearsals and performances with one of the greatest high school choirs in the country.

Also this year the group was part of a solo competition, in which Sealy brought 37 singers and 16 received an outstanding rating. Twelve of those 16 sang a song with a difficulty level that advanced them onto the state round in May. The other four sang a song that was not a state level song but received an outstanding rating on their solo. The state competition will be held in Pflugerville the day after graduation.
