The National Weather Service announced a severe thunderstorm warning for Northeastern Austin County until 4 p.m.
"At 3:08 p.m., severe thunderstorms were located along a line extending from 7 miles northeast of Anderson to near Navasota to near Brenham, moving southeast at 60 mph," the statement says.
Ping pong ball-sized hail and 60 mph wind gusts were expected as well, NWS said.
"People and animals outdoors will be injured," the statement said. "Expect hail damage to roofs, siding, windows, and vehicles. Expect wind damage to roofs, siding, and trees."
Counties affected included Northeastern Austin County, Southern Grimes County, Southeastern Washington County, Southeastern Brazos County, Western Montgomery County, Waller County and Northwestern Harris County.
"For your protection move to an interior room on the lowest floor of a building," NWS' statement concluded.
