Last week started on the road for the Lady Tiger volleyball team from Sealy with the Stafford Spartans on the schedule.
Head coach Kim Boyd’s squad produced an all-around effort to capture their second district win via the sweep behind an eight-kill performance from Brylie Nedd.
Sealy allowed only 10 points in the first set, 12 in the second and 9 in the third for a 3-0 win where Breanna Brandes assisted on 14 scoring plays and registered nine service aces to lead the team in both categories. Alyssa Foertsch was the team leader in digs with nine and Kenna Killough provided the only block for the Lady Tigers on the evening.
Ally Dickens provided seven kills and Emily Luther and Killough added four kills of their own. Sydney Rose compiled four assists and Nedd was next with three. Brooke Kram (6) and Killough (5) were second and third in the dig category while Foertsch and Rose registered a trio of service aces with Kram adding two.
That carried Sealy into a matchup with the 10th-ranked Needville Lady Jays at their place where a seven-kill outing from Raegan Newsome wasn’t quite enough offense to topple the hosts who earned a sweep of their own to hand the Lady Tigers their first loss in district play.
Brandes, still, racked up 19 assists and 12 digs as well as a block with Nedd totaling six kills, seven digs and a block. Foertsch led the team with 17 digs and added three assists and Sealy’s lone service ace in the game it moved to 14-20 overall.
This week started with a non-district match with in-county Faith Academy of Bellville, where the Lady Knights entered with a 20-6-1 overall record, before heading to Fulshear to play the fourth-ranked Lady Chargers Friday evening.
