Sealy runners adjust course

The Sealy Tiger cross country teams were supposed to run in their first meet last Saturday morning in Yoakum but rain and lightning forced the hosts to cancel the meet and spoil the season opener.

Instead, the Tiger runners ran a time trial at Sealy High School on Saturday in preparation for what head coach Anthony Branch hopes will be the season-opening meet this Thursday evening in Schulenburg. However, with storms approaching the Texas coast, that too could end up getting washed out.

Branch said both he and the teams were looking forward to getting the season started with some questions remaining on the final varsity lineups.

“They want to run. We’ve got to get our number four and five on the boys and find a number five for the girls,” Branch said Saturday. “Even though I’ve got five returning on the girls’ side, we need to find one more that can take number five.”

The head coach said the top three runners on the boys’ side are set but the sixth and seventh runners are only 30 seconds behind the possible fourth and fifth runners which could shake things up as well.
