The Sealy News has won seven awards in the South Texas Press Association’s annual Better Newspaper Contest, held Friday in LaGrange.
The newspaper took first place in page design and humorous column writing; second place in sports coverage and news writing; third place in serious column writing and display advertising; and tied for third in the Sweepstakes competition, which is based on an accumulation of points from on the number of awards won.
“I was very pleased and honored to receive these awards on behalf on my staff,” said Sealy News Publisher Karen Lopez. “I am grateful to work with such talented individuals. Without the continued input from our community The Sealy News would not be as successful as we are today. Our goal is to improve on every product and in every edition.”
The 93rd Annual South Texas Press Association convention was held on April 11-13 at the historic Casino Hall in downtown LaGrange. There were 50 Texas community newspapers represented and 117 press professionals registered for the convention.
STPA Better Newspaper Awards were given at the annual luncheon. Guest speakers included Sandra Sanchez, communications coordinator for Texas Organ Sharing Alliance, and Carlos Sanchez, news and politics editor for Texas Monthly.
