The Sealy News has undergone some staffing changes in recent weeks.
The changes began in October when Amy Lieb was promoted from office manager to general manager. As general manager, Lieb assumed day-to-day management of the newspaper. Karen Lopez had been serving as publisher of The Sealy News and took on additional publisher duties of the Katy Times in August.
Joanne Lisowski was hired in November as the office coordinator and inside sales representative. In December, Vicky Covert was hired as the advertising sales representative. That was followed by Lopez announcing that she was retiring. Her last day was Dec. 31.
On Jan. 10 Lieb left for a two-month maternity leave. In the interim, her position is being filled by veteran newspaper publisher Larry Jackson.
After retiring as publisher of the Fayette County Record in La Grange, Jackson has held temporary roles at several Texas newspapers during staff transitions. Most recently he served as interim publisher of the Colorado County Citizen in Columbus this past summer.
Before taking the helm at the La Grange paper in 2007, Jackson headed up the Wharton Journal-Spectator for 16 years. He is a past president of the Texas Press Association, the South Texas Press Association and for 10 years was Texas state chair of the National Newspaper Association. He also is currently lieutenant governor for District 5870 of Rotary International.
Lisowski is originally from Western New York but has lived most of her life in the Houston area. She now resides in Sealy and comes with extensive office management experience.
Covert is originally from the Dallas area and relocated to the Houston area about seven years ago. She currently resides in Hempstead and has a background in sales, apartment management, and accounting.
