All of the early wakeups, summer workouts and training miles come down to this.
The Sealy Tigers’ regular season on the cross country course came to a close last weekend with the St. Thomas Episcopal Invitational at the Willow Waterhole in Houston and next on the schedule comes the District 25-4A Championship meet on Oct. 16.
The teams ended on a high note and will use that heading into the next meet which will be the last time everyone is invited, from there on out standards need to be met to move on and continue the season and head coach Anthony Branch figures to send a collection of Tigers to the next round.
Before then, three varsity boys ran last weekend in Houston with Vladimir Hernandez leading the way, taking fifth overall in 17:15.55, Xavier Olvera grabbed 11th in 18:05.23 and Daniel Medrano took 21st with an 18:50.87.
The junior varsity boys took fourth in the team competition thanks in part to Logan Eschenburg’s 15th-place finish in 21:26.61. Cody Prause was not far behind, taking 20th in 22:04.29 and had Rudy Nava hot on his heels, eventually finishing in 29th with a time of 22:43.33. Eric Fredriksson took 42nd in 23:45, Ike Konvicka finished 61st in 24:47.16 and Max Mock took 69th in 25:57.04 for a team total of 111.
For the varsity girls, Hollie Brown finished 39th in the 3,200-meter race with a time of 14:15.82, Trinity Hall finished in 14:38.8 for 46th, Coral Becerra took 64th in 15:34.75 and Madison Manak finished 82nd in 16:25.75.
At the junior varsity level, Hailey Arteaga (41st, 15:46.04), Rosa Alvarez (45th, 25:58.40), Jada Burton (48th, 16:18.45) and Hattie Schalla (50th 16:24.09) all finished nearby one another.
