Sealy city manager takes office

Lloyd Merrell was welcomed by enthusiastic employees last week for his first day on the job. The new city manager started Feb. 1 and will earn an annual salary of $118,000. Merrell said he is getting acclimated and meeting residents and city employees. He was unanimously hired by the city council following a Jan. 29 closed session. ‘There was just something about him,’ said Mayor Pro Tem Sandra Vrablec. ‘He seems levelheaded. I think he’ll do a great job.’ Mayor Janice Whitehead agreed, adding, ‘We’re very glad that he’s here.’ The next Sealy City Council meeting is Feb. 13.
