School board chooses turf installer

Just a week after receiving a donation of a million dollars from the Mark A. Chapman Foundation to install a turf field at T.J. Mills Stadium, the Sealy ISD schoolboard has chosen a company to begin the installation.

The company is named FieldTurf and it has installed turfs in professional stadiums in North America and Europe over the last decade. Some of the stadiums they’ve installed turf in is the New England Patriots’ Gillette Stadium and Ohio State’s “The Horseshoe” among several other professional and college venues.

FieldTurf is partnered with a company based in Cat Spring called Athletic Field Specialists who will help install the turf itself. AFS has installed turf in the Houston Dynamo stadium and Sweeny ISD Bulldog Stadium among other projects.

“All of the companies could do the job and had good recommendations but FieldTurf had that local connection and we believe whenever it’s possible and practical to go local, you should,” Superintendent Sheryl Moore said.

Moore said the company came in with the lowest bid and it will be several weeks before the contract with them is finalized. Moore also said FieldTurf had the most compact timeline of all the candidates and barring any weather delays, they may be able to finish ahead of the February goal for completion.
