Ruby Mae Koehl Litzmann of Alleyton, Texas, passed away Dec. 13, 2018, in Columbus, Texas, at the age of 91. She was born to Rudolph and Anastasia (Zaskoda) Koehl on November 24, 1927 in Columbus, Texas.

Between 1943-1944, Ruby was a Drum Major for the Columbus High School Band. Upon graduation in 1944, Ruby attended the Massey Business College in Houston. She was employed for several years with Columbus State Bank. It was at the local Lions Club Carnival that Ruby met her husband Elton; they married on May 10, 1948, and enjoyed 58 years of marriage. Ruby continued to work at the bank after her marriage to Elton. In 1967, Elton was transferred with his job at Shell Oil to Angleton, where the Litzmanns resided until 1980 when they returned to make a home on Ruby’s family acreage in Alleyton, Texas.

Ruby and Elton became members of St. Anthony Catholic Church in Columbus, where she was an active member of the Altar Society, also serving as president. She took great pride in making sure the altar cloths were spotless and the flower arrangements were kept fresh. Ruby also was a member of the KJZT. She became an active member of the Columbus Garden Club, also serving as president.

Ruby was a wonderful wife, mother, mother-in-law, sister, aunt, grandma and friend to many people. She enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren playing hide and seek, bingo, dominoes, and cards. Besides her family, Ruby’s passions included: sewing, painting, and baking sweets. Anything Ruby created, was pristine; she was a talented artist. She made the best pies, angel food cakes, divinity, and cookies — she was a master with pastries. Ruby was happiest creating something for someone else. She loved her time in the country where she had a huge garden. Ruby had a natural green thumb – she made the best pickles, and the fig and pear preserves came from her own trees.

Ruby was preceded in death by her parents and husband.

Ruby is survived by her children, Rosanne Pearson, Mark Litzmann (Barbara Frybert) and Marian Palazzolo (Vincent); grandchildren, Zane William Frybert Litzmann, Matthias Joseph Frybert Litzmann, Sarah Palazzolo, Joseph Palazzolo, Leif Pearson (Melissa), Erin Jarmon (Josh) and Megan Schneider (Josh); 5 great grandchildren, and brother Leslie Koehl, of Alleyton.

Visitation, Parish Prayer service and Rosary were held on Monday, Dec. 17, 2018, at Henneke Funeral Home. The Funeral Mass for Ruby was held Tuesday, Dec. 18, 2018 at 10 a.m. at St. Anthony Catholic Church, Columbus with Fr. Augustine N. Asante officiating. Burial followed at St. Anthony Catholic Cemetery.

Pallbearers included: Zane William Frybert Litzmann, Matthias Joseph Frybert Litzmann, Kenny Koehl, John Glueck, Leif Pearson, and Josh Jarmon; honorary pallbearers were Joseph Palazzolo and Victor Edwards.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to St. Anthony School Capital Campaign Fund, P.O. Box 669, Columbus, Texas 78934.

Just like her smile and friendly, out-going nature, Ruby will be a loving friend to all she meets in Heaven. She was gorgeous inside out--just like her picture! Words cannot express how painful her absence is to all of us. Our loss is Heaven's gain. We love you Ruby!
