Robert Zubicek

Robert Zubicek, 79, of Sealy, Texas, passed away on Monday, April 1, 2019, in Houston, Texas.  He was born on January 25, 1940, in Cat Spring, Texas, to the late Sam and Bertha Zubicek.  He grew up in Cat Spring and graduated from Sealy High School in 1958.

Robert served honorably in the United States Air Force in Vietnam during the early 1960s.  Upon his return from service, he worked at Sealy Tractor as a mechanic until he was approached to start the Auto Mechanics program at Sealy Independent School District in 1967.

On July 28, 1973, Robert married Darlene Szymanski in Sealy, and they have lived in Sealy for the last 45 years.  Robert spent his career as the Auto Mechanics teacher at Sealy High School, teaching until his retirement in 2007.  He was extremely passionate about educating the students that walked into his classroom, and many of those students later attended technical college and worked in the automotive field.  Robert also spent 35 years as a school bus driver for Sealy ISD, serving the children of the Frydek/Mixville area.

Throughout his life, Robert served in various organizations, including the State Board of the Texas Industrial Vocational Association, committees within the First United Methodist Church of Sealy, and many years in the VFW post of Sealy.

Robert could fix anything.  Literally anything.  His expertise was auto and tractor repair, and his phone constantly rang with people requesting his advice on how to get their car or tractor running.  In his retirement he restored several tractors and showed them at various tractor shows in Southeast Texas.  Robert was also a skilled woodworker, and many of his coffee tables, cabinets, toy boxes, and end tables adorn his home and the homes of his children.

Robert was a loving and loyal husband and a dedicated father.  He always put his family first in all aspects of his life.  His family has fond memories of the trips they made camping and to Fredericksburg.  He truly enjoyed spending time with his family and was a fixture at any event that included his children or grandchildren.

He is survived by his wife, Darlene Zubicek; son, Eric Zubicek; son, Vince Zubicek and wife, Alison; daughter, Kristin Haidusek and husband, Clayton; grandchildren Lauren Zubicek, Luke Zubicek, Kallie Haidusek, Creed Haidusek, and Carter Haidusek.  He is also survived by his brother, Edwin Zubicek, as well as numerous other relatives and friends.  Robert was preceded in death by his parents, sister-in-law Sharon Zubicek, and brother-in-law Jimmy Szymanski.

Pallbearers are Clayton Haidusek, Justin Szymanski, Stephen Stuessel, Scott Stuessel, Karl Kloss, and Frankie Mericle.

In lieu of flowers, friends who wish may make memorial gifts in memory of Robert to the First United Methodist Church of Sealy.
