Richard “Rick” Waldrop


Rick was born on Dec. 1, 1957, in San Antonio to Carter Waldrop and Mary (Weadock) Waldrop. He attended Royal High School, Class of ’76. He was baptized in the First United Methodist Church, in Brookshire, at the age of 8. He married Kim Keaton on Nov. 22, 1980 in the Industry Brethren Church. On Nov. 29, 1984 they were blessed with one child, Jon Carter.

Rick was most happy when with his family as well as serving the Lord. He was an avid outdoorsman and duck hunter. He had a deep love for the Brazos River. A few of his hobbies were the love of music, especially the drums, barbecuing, Dutch oven cooking, blacksmithing and knife making. Rick was a simple man but lived life to the fullest. A favorite past time of his was just sitting on the front porch visiting with friends.

Rick served as a trustee of San Felipe United Methodist Church, was a lifetime member of the North American Hunting Club, and a past member of Ducks Unlimited and Stephen F Austin Radio Club.

He is survived by his wife Kim Waldrop of San Felipe. Son Jon Waldrop and his wife Erica of San Felipe. Two grandchildren; Harloe, and Slade. His mother Mary Waldrop, of Pattison; sister Karen Porter and her husband Rick of Fredericksburg. Brother in laws Todd Keaton and Ty Keaton and numerous other family members. He was preceded in death by his father Carter Waldrop.

Visitation was held from 5 to 7 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 13, 2018 at the San Felipe United Methodist Church. Friends paid their respects on Friday, Sept. 14, 2018 at the San Felipe United Methodist Church.

Funeral Services was held at 10 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 15, 2018, at the San Felipe United Methodist Church, 202 Vicente Guerrero, San Felipe, TX 77473, with Rev. Joel McMahon officiating.

Burial followed in the San Felipe Cemetery. Pallbearers; Robert Braentner, Rolf Gullaksen, Alan Konieczny, David Melton, Don Pyle, John Stinger, Roy Taylor and Russel Voyles. Honorary Pallbearers; Jim Bundick, Mark Miranda, Chris Sodolak, Jack Miller, Tom Conlan, Jack Carr, Todd Keaton, Ty Keaton, Rick Porter, Steve Packard, Adrian Blakney, John Boggan, James Lezak, Charles Griffin and Chris Singer.

Memorials may be made in Rick’s name to the San Felipe United Methodist Church, Restoration Fund, PO Box 149, San Felipe, Texas 77473.
