Queen of Soul


Aretha Franklin, known as the Queen of Soul, died Thursday, Aug. 16, at the age of 76.

A family statement noted that her official cause of death was advanced pancreatic cancer.

The singer won 18 Grammy awards throughout her career and was known for her songs “Respect,” “Chain of Fools” and “Freeway of Love,” among many others. Her family reports that a private funeral will be held Aug. 31 in Detroit.
