Parking lot paved at Sealy Elementary

Ever since the opening of Sealy Elementary in the fall of 2018 the Sealy ISD recognized there may not be enough on-site parking for events after the initial open house.

The district took a wait-and-see approach because the high numbers of people parking there could simply be the result of visitors wanting to see the new campus. By the second year that theory was disproved, and the district concluded it was short on-site parking for events.

On Aug. 26, board of trustees members heard the concerns of staff and the community and approved the construction of 100 additional parking spaces. The City of Sealy permitted the project on Sept. 30, and MBC Construction out of Navasota kicked off the site work the following week.

The parking lot is scheduled to be complete and ready for use in mid-November. The total cost of construction including the engineering, stormwater controls, additional lighting, and new signage is expected to come in just under $220,000. The project is funded using surplus 2016 bond funds. The additional 100 parking spaces are expected to greatly improve the safety at the campus and promote campus accessibility for all students, parents and visitors to Sealy Elementary.

Site work was performed by Hein Contracting. Sealy Concrete and Navasota Concrete supplied the concrete. RabaKistner provided construction labs and field observation. And MBCM, who was awarded the project, also did construction of the ag barn and the culinary kitchen just recently completed at Sealy High School.
