Spring Fest

Sealy Area Historical Society’s 2018 Spring Fest is set for 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday, April 14, at the Santa Fe Museum Grounds, 211 East Main St., Sealy. Free admission. St. Paul A.M.E. Church Anniversary

St. Paul A.M.E., 400 San Felipe St., Sealy, is holding its 129th church anniversary event at 3 p.m. April 15. Guest speaker is evangelist Emma Shorter.

National Volunteer Week

National Volunteer Week is April 16-20. Unity Theatre, Brenham’s small professional theatre company, is hosting a Volunteer Open House. Drop by the theatre, 300 Church Street, April 16-22 anytime between 10 a.m. and 2 p.m. for coffee and cookies, take a tour of backstage and learn about the exciting volunteer opportunities.

Chill Out with Kona Ice

Kona Ice of Austin County will be offering free shaved ice on Tuesday, April 17, to help local residents “chill out” for the tax season. Kona Ice will be at the American Legion Hall, 1630 Meyer St., Sealy, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.

Young Artists’ Showcase and Auction

The Sealy Lions Club is sponsoring a Young Artists’ Showcase and Auction at Trinity Lutheran Church, 402 Atchison St., Sealy, from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. Thursday, April 19. The event includes a silent auction and live auction. Exhibits will be on display at Citizens State Bank April 16-19. Proceeds benefit SISD art students and SISD art programs.

Boots and Blue Jeans

Blinn College’s annual Boots and Blue Jeans Scholarship Fundraiser is set for 2 p.m. April 20 at the Sealy American Legion Hall, 1630 Meyer St. Proceeds go toward scholarships for the Sealy campus.

Citywide Garage Sale

The 15th annual citywide garage sale will be held on Saturday, April 21, rain or shine. The garage sales are held in yards and garages all over Sealy. The event is sponsored annually by the Sealy Economic Development Corporation and is widely advertised in the local and surrounding areas. A list of registered garage sales will be published and available on April 19 at Sealy City Hall, the Sealy EDC office or they can view and print the list and city map from www.sealyedc.com. To register a garage sale they can contact Kim Meloneck at 979-627-6121 or kmeloneck@ci.sealy.tx.us. The deadline to register is Tuesday, April 17. There is no charge to participate or register. By registering, the address is added to the participant list provided to garage sale shoppers and posted on the website.

Tegeler Chevrolet First Anniversary

A ribbon-cutting and Business After Hours in honor of Tegeler Chevrolet’s first anniversary is set for 5:30 p.m. April 23.

Candidate Forum

A candidate forum for Texas House of Representatives Special Election District 13 is set for 8 to 9 a.m. April 25 at Holiday Inn Express and Suites Sealy meeting room, 2370 Highway 36 South. All candidates will have an opportunity to answer questions presented by the audience.

Sealy City Council Forums

Candidate forums for Sealy City Council will be held from 8 to 9 a.m. April 26 at the Backdrop Event Venue, 3701 Outlet Center Drive, Suite 60, and from 5:30 to 7 p.m. April 26 at Sealy American Legion Hall, 1630 Meyer St. All candidates will have an opportunity to answer questions presented by the audience.

ACC Chorale Pops Concert

The Austin County Civic Chorale will present "A Classic Pops Sampler" on Friday, April 27, at 7 p.m. at Emery's Buffalo Creek in Bellville. This performance will be the second this year in the Chorale's 33rd season and will feature choral arrangements of popular songs mostly from the late l960's and early 1970s. Tickets are $15 and will include a hors d'oeuvre reception following the concert. Tickets must be purchased in advance and seating is limited. Call 979-877-5643 for tickets or more information.

Ribbon Cutting

A ribbon-cutting ceremony for Weebird will be held at 9 a.m. May 1 at Blinn College, 3701 Outlet Center Drive, Suite 250, Sealy.

Kid Fish

The annual Kid Fish event is set for May 5 at B&PW Park in Sealy. Sealy Police Department is still in need of sponsors. To contribute, contact Investigator Drlik or Officer Tapia at 979-885-2913. Check donations will be accepted at City Hall written to Sealy Police Kid Fish. All donations will be used for supplies and prizes for the kids.

PUPS Fundraiser

The PUPS annual fundraiser – Cinco de Mayo and Kentucky Derby Party – is set for 5 to 8 p.m. Saturday, May 5, at Emery’s Buffalo Creek Winery, 10827 Highway 36 North, Bellville. The event will feature food, drinks and a silent auction. Call Cheryl at 979-732-5591 for ticket information.

Cinco de Mayo

A Cinco de Mayo celebration is planned at Saddleback Saloon on May 5 starting at noon. Live music featuring Sancho and the Love Tones and Brown Sugar. Food and drink specials. For more information contact 979-885-7346.

Court-Appointed Special Advocates

Every child has a chance … It’s you! Become a CASA (Court-Appointed Special Advocate) and speak up for children in the foster care system. Texas German Society

Americans of German descent constitute the largest ethnic group in the United States with more than 58 million Americans proudly proclaiming their German heritage. Austin County and the surrounding areas contain a large number of inhabitants with German backgrounds. The Bluebonnet Chapter of Texas German Society strives to preserve and promote the German language, culture and traditions. This group meets bi-monthly at the Hill Center in Sealy. Anyone, including non-German speaking individuals, is encouraged to join. They may contact chapter president Herbert Schumann at 979-865-3804.
