Meet and Greet with City Manager

The City Council invites residents and business owners to join us as we welcome new City Manager Lloyd Merrell to Sealy. The meet and greet will be held on Saturday, Feb. 24, from 6 to 8 p.m. at Liedertafel Hall, 116 Lux Road. Light refreshments will be served. Sealy Catholic Daughters

The Court St. Elizabeth No. 1616 Sealy Catholic Daughters will hold their annual Turkey-Dressing Dinner on Sunday, March 4, from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Sealy KC Hall. Dine in or take out. Lots of homemade desserts will be available. There will be a live dessert auction starting at 11:30 a.m. The Junior Catholic Daughters will have a silent auction. At 1 p.m. the drawing will start for 65 prizes.

Texas Master Naturalists announce spring training schedule

As a Master Naturalist, you will join a corps of volunteers dedicated to the beneficial management of our natural resources and natural areas. Are you interested in our natural habitat –learning more about native plants and grasses; local geology; natural water systems; native birds, insects and mammals; hummingbirds or butterflies; our overall ecosystem? If so, you can enhance your knowledge of these areas and more by becoming a Certified Texas Master Naturalist.

The classes are scheduled to begin March 24 and complete on Saturday, May 26 and will include four evening classes on Tuesday evenings from 6:30 to 9 p.m. and eight Saturday classes from 9 a.m. until 2 p.m. Saturday classes are held at nearby parks and preserves to provide additional educational opportunities for new trainees in the field.

Sealy Booster Club Crawfish Boil

The Sealy Booster Club is hosting a crawfish boil fundraiser featuring all-you-can-eat crawfish, draft beer, soft drinks and water, on Saturday, April 7, at the Sealy KC Hall Pavilion. Doors open at 4 p.m., and serving begins at 5 p.m. The event will feature silent and live auction items.

Spring Fest

Sealy Area Historical Society’s 2018 Spring Fest is set for 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday, April 14, at the Santa Fe Museum Grounds, 211 East Main St., Sealy. Free admission. Young Artists’ Showcase and Auction

The Sealy Lions Club is sponsoring a Young Artists’ Showcase and Auction at Trinity Lutheran Church, 402 Atchison St., Sealy, from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. Thursday, April 19. The event includes a silent auction and live auction. Exhibits will be on display at Citizens State Bank April 16-19. Proceeds benefit SISD art students and SISD art programs.

Texas German Society

Americans of German descent constitute the largest ethnic group in the United States with more than 58 million Americans proudly proclaiming their German heritage. Austin County and the surrounding areas contain a large number of inhabitants with German backgrounds.

The Bluebonnet Chapter of Texas German Society strives to preserve and promote the German language, culture and traditions. This group meets bi-monthly at the Hill Center in Sealy. Anyone, including non-German speaking individuals, is encouraged to join. They may contact chapter president Herbert Schumann at 979-865-3804.

State Historic Site

San Felipe de Austin State Historic Site shares the stories of Stephen F. Austin and his colonists who came to Mexican Texas in the 1820s and 1830s. The historic site is open daily from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. and offers frequent special-content programming on weekends. Construction on a new museum is ongoing (anticipated opening is spring 2018). Today’s Word Ministries

Today’s Word Ministries is starting a nondenominational Bible study at Tony’s Family Restaurant in Sealy.
