Austin County GOP will host its first Candidate Forum for the five Republican candidates for State Representative House District 13 at the regular monthly meeting Thursday, Jan. 4, starting at 7 p.m. at Tony’s Family Restaurant in Sealy. Candidates are: Jill Wolfskill and Marc S. Young of Austin County; David K. Stall of Fayette County; Ben Leman of Grimes County and Daniel McCarthy of Washington County.
On Thursday, Feb. 8, at 6:30 p.m., ACGOP will host a candidate forum in Bellville at the historic Turnverein at the Austin County Fairgrounds. All five HD13 Republican candidates have confirmed. Invitations have also been sent to 4 Commissioner of the General Land Office Republican candidates. Jerry Patterson has confirmed.
Meetings are open to all but only Republican candidates are invited to participate in the forums primary to the March 6, 2018 Primary Election.
Austin County Aggie Moms will have their first meeting of 2018 Monday, Jan. 8, at Sens Activity Center in Bellville. They will begin with a chili supper at 5:30 p.m., followed by a short meeting at 6 p.m. Guest speakers will be 2017 scholarship recipients and our members’ current students. Master Gardener Training Program
For anyone interested in participating in the Master Gardener training program, the deadline for signing up is Jan. 17. Class size is limited. The classes will be held on Wednesday mornings beginning on January 17, 2018 and continuing through April 18, 2018.
The Master Gardener program is a unique opportunity for individuals who are interested in horticulture and serving their community. Master Gardeners are trained in all facets of horticulture such as plant and soil science, entomology, plant pathology, landscape design, vegetable gardening and much more. The Texas Master Naturalists, Coastal Prairie Chapter, will hold their monthly program on Thursday, Feb. 1 at the Rosenberg Civic Center, 3825 Texas 36 South, Rosenberg. Texas Master Naturalists announce spring training schedule
As a Master Naturalist, you will join a corps of volunteers dedicated to the beneficial management of our natural resources and natural areas. Are you interested in our natural habitat –learning more about native plants and grasses; local geology; natural water systems; native birds, insects and mammals; hummingbirds or butterflies; our overall ecosystem? If so, you can enhance your knowledge of these areas and more by becoming a Certified Texas Master Naturalist.
The classes are scheduled to begin March 24 and complete on Saturday, May 26 and will include four evening classes on Tuesday evenings from 6:30 to 9 p.m. and eight Saturday classes from 9 a.m. until 2 p.m. Saturday classes are held at nearby parks and preserves to provide additional educational opportunities for new trainees in the field.
Texas German Society
Americans of German descent constitute the largest ethnic group in the United States with more than 58 million Americans proudly proclaiming their German heritage. Austin County and the surrounding areas contain a large number of inhabitants with German backgrounds.
The Bluebonnet Chapter of Texas German Society strives to preserve and promote the German language, culture and traditions. This group meets bi-monthly at the Hill Center in Sealy. State Historic Site
San Felipe de Austin State Historic Site shares the stories of Stephen F. Austin and his colonists who came to Mexican Texas in the 1820s and 1830s.
