The Sealy YMCA Board of Directors would like to give everyone a short update on where we are and where we are headed. We have had tremendous support from donors from all parts of our community and are well on our way toward getting started with a new building.
The Houston YMCA however had a huge, perhaps even catastrophic, setback due to Hurricane Harvey and has placed a stop order on all new construction. We do, however, have the heart, vision and plan to make this a reality when the day finally comes to move forward.
The city of Sealy has been very generous in their support of the Y and continues yearly to support the Y programs. The city, the Y donors and the Y all three working together help make the Sealy community recreation programs happen.
The Y basketball program, known as Little Dribblers, had more than 200 children involved last winter. Altogether the Sealy Y runs nine programs including swimming, soccer, flag football, dance, after-school programs and karate. There are plans to add more programs each year. All the proceeds from these programs stay in Sealy and are instrumental in being able to underwrite the operations of the Sealy pool each summer. Due to generous donations within our community yearly, these programs are well-funded and available to anyone and everyone.
As the Sealy community continues to grow, the Sealy Y will grow alongside it. Thank you for your support.
