Mary Ann Kolle Leveridge 90, of East Bernard, went to be with the Lord, Wednesday, Jan. 16, 2019 surrounded by family. Preceded by her husband, Aubrey Thomas, Jr. and son Tom. She is survived by Linda Leveridge, Mary Hodges, Mike Leveridge, Frances Gorman, 13 grandchildren and 20 great-grandchildren. Mary Ann was born on September 10, 1928 in Houston, daughter to Fredrick Windolph & Mary Wynne Kolle.
Mary Ann was an outstanding and extraordinary mother, grandmother, and educator. She loved spending time with her family, working in her gardens & flower beds, taking rides in the country to see the new born calves, and working to improve the school systems in the State of Texas and across the nations. Mary Ann was known as “Mimi” to her grandchildren and family.
Mary Ann lived a very active life. She had served as an elected official on the Texas State School Board, was both President of the Texas and National Parents & Teachers Associations, taught Sunday school at First United Methodist Church in East Bernard. She helped publish a book titled “Journey from Ignorant Ridge” documenting the history of Texas schools. Mary Ann was an amateur “Ham” radio operator having earned a First-Class operator’s license. She assumed management of the farm and ranch operations beginning in 2004. She was also on the Board of Directors of the Beautify Texas Council, Chairman of the East Bernard Library Building Committee, member of the Texas and National Parliamentarians Association, the Harris County Civil Defense Council, the Texas Aerospace Council, President’s Council on Physical Fitness, National Energy Advisor Board, and worked with both the Boy & Girl Scouts programs in East Bernard.
Survivors include daughters: Linda Leveridge of East Bernard; Mary Hodges and husband, Bascom, of East Bernard; daughter in-law Tinney Leveridge of Schertz; Mike Leveridge and wife, Gloria of Brazoria; daughter Frances Gorman and husband, Phil of Sealy; grandchildren: Katie Carden Summers, Virginia Carden Waymer, Joe Leveridge, Mary Alice Leveridge, Henry Leveridge, Christine Powell, Aubrey Leveridge IV, Lt. Colonel Autumn T. Leveridge, Michael Wynne Leveridge, Jr., Julia Elizabeth Johnson, Melissa Wynne Bennett, Aubrey Nicholas Gorman, William “Buster” Leveridge Gorman; and great grandchildren: Tessa Summers; Gracelyn, Callan & Valyn Waymer; Joseph, Rose, & Ragen Leveridge; Kayla, Aubrey V, & Maddie Leveridge; Vivian Powel, Hailey, Nathan, Sophia & Luck Johnson; Miles, Elizabeth and Aubrey Taylor Bennett; and Elise May Gorman.
A Memorial Service is scheduled for 11:30 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 26, 2019, at the First United Methodist Church, 421 Pietsch Street, in East Bernard with the Rev. Lindsey Smith, Jr. officiating. A private burial will precede the memorial service at Leveridge Family Cemetery.
