Margaret Elizabeth Cloud (Bruce, Henline, Hewitt) Miles passed into the arms of the Lord on December 10, 2017 in Bellville Texas, two days before her 93rd birthday. The eldest of three daughters, Margaret was born to Guy Cloud and Elizabeth Davenport Cloud on December 12, 1924, in Houston, Texas.
A Houstonian until 1968, Margaret attended River Oaks Elementary School, Lanier Junior High School, where she was a cheerleader, and Lamar High School, from which she graduated in the Class of 1942. She later attended South Texas Junior College and Blinn College.
Margaret worked until age 75 in both business and government, including positions at Star Engraving Company, Houston Shipbuilding Company, the City of Houston, Houston Lighting & Power Company, and Humble Oil and Refining Company. In 1968, she moved to Austin County, Texas, where she lived in Buckhorn and later Bellville. She worked at The Bellville Times and for the City of Bellville in the Bellville Library and the Bellville Police Department, later serving as Associate Municipal Judge and Municipal Judge in Bellville.
Margaret also served part time, from age 56 to age 65, as an Emergency Care Attendant with the Austin County EMS, and was working part time for the Austin County 911 District at the time of her full retirement in 2000. She enjoyed volunteer activities, crocheting, Bible study, and reading. She was a member of Bellville United Methodist Church and the Bellville Hospital Auxiliary.
Margaret was preceded in death by her parents, Guy and Elizabeth Cloud, sister and brother-in-law Mignonne and Frank Gaskey, brother-in-law Charles E. Fenner, M. D., and grandson, Justin Templeton. She is survived by: sister Camilla Cloud Fenner, of Katy and New Ulm; daughters Lynn Culmer of Houston, and Guyleen Muehlebach of Porter; grandchildren Kimberly Alo, Mary Muehlebach, Cathy Dahl, Susan Patton, Billy Muehlebach, Patricia Muehlebach, and Bonita Ransom and their families, including 16 great-grandchildren; aunt LaNoe Gibson of Palacios; cousin Vivian Harwell of Bellville, and their families as well as “adopted daughter and great-granddaughter” Sharon and Elizabeth Godden, and numerous other family members and friends.
The family wishes to thank the staff of Rose Hill Retirement Home, the staff of Compassionate Care Hospice, and Dr. Don Bosse for the devoted care Margaret received during her last years.
Arrangements were coordinated by Knesek Funeral Home in Bellville, Texas. Visitation will be at 10 a.m. Friday, Dec. 15, 2017, at Bellville United Methodist Church, Bellville, Texas. Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Friday, Dec. 15, 2017, at Bellville United Methodist Church, 234 S. Masonic Street, Bellville, Pastor Amy Haralson officiating. Interment to follow at the Buckhorn Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, gifts may be directed to Bellville United Methodist Church, Compassionate Care Hospice, or the Methodist Children’s Home.
