Local kids compete in regional free throw competition

The Galveston-Houston Archdiocese Regional Knights of Columbus Council Free Throw Championship was held Feb. 24 at the St. Pius X High School Gym in Houston. Approximately 125 previous KC district winners were present at this regional competition. Previous local District 86 winners were eligible to participate in this regional competition representing the Sealy Co. 3313, Wallis Co. 3793, Bellville Co. 9268 and Frydek Co. 12558.

Two first-place winners emerged from the girls’ 11-year-old and 12-year-old groups. Grace Eschenburg representing Co. 12558 of Frydek won the girls’ 11-year-old group and Watson Mackenzie representing Co. 9268 Bellville won the girls’ 12-year-old group. Each contestant was allowed 25 free throw attempts in the contest.

Three second place winners emerged from other girls and boys groups. Kyle Demny representing Co. 3793 of Wallis won second place in the 9-year-old boy’s event. Logan Eschenburg representing Co. 12558 Frydek won second place in the 13-year-old boys’ event. Regan Novicke representing Co. 3313 Sealy won second place in the 14-year-old girls’ event. Should any first place regional winners not be able to attend the KC State competition to be held in San Antonio, the second place winner would then be able to compete.
