Local artists advance to state

Last weekend, Sealy High School art students of all levels competed in the Regional Visual Art Scholastic Event in College Station and two artists punched their tickets to the state competition on April 24 and 25 at San Marcos High School.

Students not only worked hard on preparing an original artwork, but also had to provide original sources, answer a series of short-answer questions, and interview with a judge. Overall, SHS students were awarded 18 gold medals, 13 silver, and two state qualifiers.

“I am so incredibly proud of all the students and all the work they put in,” Art teacher Brooke Trahan said. “Also, special thank you to Mrs. Brittany Hall for sharing digital art students, allowing them to work and advise kids in her classes who participated. Students’ artwork from this event is showcased in the upstairs display case with the exception of the state advancement works.”
