Many people have suffered incalculable losses due to the flooding over the last couple of weeks. As we repair our lives and homes, we should take the time to thank those friends, families and members of the community who have selflessly volunteered their time and energy to help those affected.

There is one person in particular that should be recognized for his invaluable service to those in the Lazy River community and that person is John Smith.

After he and his family had personally evacuated, Smith returned to the community with his boat and spent the rest of the day rescuing residents of Lazy River (both human and canine) from their flooded homes.

He worked tirelessly next to the crisis management teams of the Sealy and Frydek Fire Departments to ensure all residents were evacuated and taken to safety. John Smith truly went above and beyond the call of duty and I would like to send him a tremendous thank you personally and on behalf of all the residents of our community.

Sincerely,

Joyce Galyen

Lazy River Resident
