The Faith Academy basketball teams both played two games last week and the girls’ team won both, but the boys’ squad lost each of their games.
The Lady Knights took down the Oaks Adventist Lady Tigers, 39-23, last Tuesday before beating the Robert Beren Academy Stars, 43-40.
On the other side, the Knights fell to the Tigers of Oaks Adventist, 64-48, and the Cypress Covenant Patriots, 55-27.
Addie Kuespert was a force to be reckoned with for the Lady Knights, registering a double-double in both wins to help lead her team.
In Tuesday’s win over the Oaks, Kuespert finished top among Faith scorers with 13 points and secured a team second-best 12 rebounds. Gabby Yates scored a team second-best 10 points and held the lead in the rebound category with 13. Chesney Johnston was next with her 10 rebounds and added eight points.
In the latter-week matchup with Beren Academy, Kuespert led her team in points (19) and rebounds (24) outright to help bounce back from a halftime deficit. Johnston registered team second bests in points (11) and rebounds (12) with Josie Bretado not far behind (8 points, 11 rebounds).
Nathan Figueroa was the go-to choice for the Knights last week, finishing with 21 points and 16 rebounds across the two losses.
On Tuesday in their game against the Oaks, Kaleb Shepherd piled on 17 points to Faith Academy’s side of the scoreboard, joined in the double digits by Figueroa (11) and Pierce Newcomb (10). That was not enough to offset a 20-point second quarter from the Tigers, who ended up taking the game by 16 points.
Figueroa once again hit double digits in the Friday showdown with Cypress Covenant although he was the Knights’ leading scorer with 10 points. Newcomb added six, Nathan Taake had five and Jonah Taake contributed four points.
The Faith Academy basketball teams played their final regular-season game earlier this week with the Lady Knights traveling to Aristoi Classical Academy while the Knights traveled to Southwest Christian Academy for Tuesday night contests.
