The Faith Academy Lady Knights traveled to the Oaks Adventists Christian School on Thursday, Jan. 9 for their second meeting in district play.
The Lady Knights had struggled in their first meeting with the Oaks Lady Tigers, but Thursday night would tell a different story.
Faith Academy went back and forth with Oaks throughout the game, matching the Oaks point for point.
By the end of it, sophomore Addie Keuspert led all scorers with 13 points and added 14 rebounds, Gabby Yates followed with eight points, Chesney Johnston added four points and Ella Polston and Joselyn Bretado each contributed two points.
Despite those efforts and good play on both ends of the court down the stretch, the Lady Knights came up just short of the comeback and fell by two points, 31-29.
Faith Academy hosted Aristoi Classical Academy for a non-district tilt on Monday and will have Robert Beren Academy travel to Bellville for a Thursday night district showdown starting at 5:30 p.m.
On the boys' side, the Knights played both of their games on the road last week, first in Hallettsville against Sacred Heart.
Nathan Taake led the Faith Academy scorers with nine and was followed closely by Nathan Figueroa who scored six but it wasn't quite enough to bring the Knights back, ultimately falling by a 60-23 score.
On Thursday, Faith Academy took a trip to Oaks Adventist in Cypress and started out on a better note in its second district contest of the year. Kaleb Shepherd registered double digits and led Knight scorers with 10 points and had Taake hot on his heels with eight points.
At the final buzzer, Oaks Adventist held a 46-22 advantage and handed Faith Academy its second loss in district play thus far. Over the course of last week's two games, Taake finished with 17 points and 10 rebounds to help his team.
This week, the Knights squared off with Cypress Covenant Academy Tuesday evening at home before hosting Southwest Christian Academy for a Friday night district matchup.
