The Faith Academy boys’ basketball team opened its district competition last week while the girls’ team played in its antepenultimate non-district contest.
The Knights hosted Robert Beren Academy on Dec. 10 to begin their District 9-1A slate and although they came up short by a 49-35 margin, there were a few bright spots for Faith Academy.
Pierce Newcomb led all Knight scorers with 16 points by shooting 100% from the free-throw line and added six steals to boot. Kaleb Shepherd poured in eight points of his own, followed by Jonah Taake’s five and Nathan Taake’s four points.
Shepherd grabbed the most rebounds for Faith Academy with eight and had Nathan Taake hot on his heels with seven. The Knights return to action after the holiday break on Jan. 7 with another contest with Robert Beren Academy, this time at their place.
On Friday, Dec. 13, the Faith Academy Lady Knights’ basketball team faced off against 4A Faith West Academy in Katy.
The Lady Knights came out on the short end, losing 54-15. Addie Kuespert scored 10 points, Rachel Kuespert scored three points and Haley Guzman scored two points.
“This year, these young ladies have faced their share of many larger, more experienced teams,” said head coach Terri Tomlinson. “As the season progresses, the ladies are working hard and continuously striving to improve their game.”
