Josephine M. Bear, 88, of Sealy, went to be with our Lord Jesus in heaven on the afternoon of Wednesday, Jan. 31, 2018. Mama Jo, as she was affectionately called by those who knew and loved her, was born in Sunnyside, Texas, on May 6, 1929, to parents Frank and Rosie Vesely.

She was married to the first love of her life, Dan Owen Frank of Sealy, for 46 years until his death in 1995. Jo was blessed by finding love again and married Howard Bear in 2003. They have resided in Sealy since that time. Mama Jo took great pride in her family, loved quilting and sharing food recipes with family and friends.

She and Howard enjoyed playing dominoes with friends and family, and traveling, which included several Caribbean cruises. They loved getting together with their family and for years followed the Sealy Tiger football team as well as going to sport events with their great grandchildren.

Mama Jo is preceded in death by her parents, her first husband Dan, brothers; Frank, Alvin, and Daniel Vesely, sister Bernice Pavlicek and son-in-law Mack Kennedy. She is survived by her loving husband Howard Bear of 15 years, daughter Pat Kennedy of Midland and daughter Cherry Bell (Michael) of Mesquite, her grandchildren; Scott Spencer (Kristin) of Franklin, TN and Chris Rochen of Mesquite and great grandchildren; Parker Elizabeth and Campbell Gail Spencer.

Also surviving are her step children Lynda Schneider (Edmund) of East Bernard, Kathy Mewis (Roy) of Bellville, Bubba Bear (Mary) of San Antonio, Alice Moore of Bellville, and Jayne Cantu (Larry) of Navasota. Step grandchildren: Dawn Clifton (Steve), Edmund Schneider, Jr., and Jon Schneider all of East Bernard and Sherri Crum (Matt) of Washington, Ron Mewis (Lori), Steven Mewis (Monica), Kristin Davis, Karin Hall (Matt) all of Katy; Joseph Bear of Austin, Daniel Bear of California and Jacob Bear (Laura) of Connecticut; Ammie Duron (Danny) of Bleiblerville, Larry Cantu III (Sarah) of San Antonio, Nikki Edwards (Steve) of Bryan, Genny Hall (Cheyenne) of Navasota. Step-great grandchildren: Garrett (Alyssa) Clifton, Matthew, C.J., Andrew (Jacey Noska), Zac Clifton, Tyler and Caiden Crum, Katie, Will and Jackson Mewis, Luis and Isabel Varela, Sophia and Luke Mewis, Mikey, Alysa and Josh Davis, Joel and Jordin Mewis, Sam and Emma Hall, Michael and Natalie Bear, Vinny and Kelsey Craggs, McKenzie Duron, Michael Cantu, Cheian and Aniyah Hall, and Ethan Karakos; great great grandson Andrew Clifton, Jr.

Serving as pallbearers were Scott Spencer, Michael Vesely, Garry Pavlicek, Ron Mewis, Steven Mewis and Edmund Schneider, Jr.

A celebration of a life well lived and funeral mass was held at Immaculate Conception Church on Tuesday, Feb. 6, 2018 at 10 a.m. with Father Eric Pitre officiating.

Visitation and rosary were Monday, February 5, 2018, from 5 to 7 p.m. at Knesek Funeral Home at 1140 Hwy 36, Sealy, Texas.
