There is a polka dance in heaven now that John Walter “JW” Schmitt, age 87, of Bellville, Texas, passed away on June 28, 2018. He was born and schooled in Frydek, Texas. He worked as a welder and mechanic in Houston until he opened John’s Auto Repair in 1962 in Sealy, and then Schmitt Exxon in Sealy in 1968. He married Ruby Schroeder in 1951 in Bellville and together they had four children.
JW is preceded in death by his parents, Walter and Elsie Mieth Schmitt, a sister, Lillie Gibson, and his beloved wife Ruby. He is survived by their four children: John William and wife Allene, Milton and wife Jo, twins Glenda and husband John Dyer, and Linda and husband Don Raabe. Additionally, grandchildren include Matthew Pulos, Emily Pulos, Mandy Raabe, Kristine Moses and husband James, Tara and husband Brent Martin, and Milton and wife Courtney Schmitt. Great grand-children include Jace, Anna, Brandon, and Kayla Martin; Jackson Raabe, and Ivory, Ethan, and Abigail Sanders.
JW led an active life of fishing at the Brazos River, shrimping at Matagorda, trail rides with the Austin County Saddle Club, dancing with many friends, and ranching. His family and friends will greatly miss his humor and storytelling.
Visitation was Sunday, July 8, 2018 at Knesek Bros. Highway 36 Chapel, 1140 Meyer St., Sealy, from 1 to 2 p.m. Funeral service followed at 2 p.m. Interment will follow at Pilgrims Rest Cemetery.
