Another junior-high sweep came earlier this week with the Wharton Tigers falling by the way side in the penultimate game of the season.
The A team from eighth grade blanked Wharton, 30-0 thanks in part to D’vonne Hmielewski supplying an interception, long punt return, 100 yards rushing and four scores through the air. Mason Klotz caught two of those passes with Hayden Wenecke and A’vonte Nunn catching the others.
The defense was highlighted by Nathan Dreese, Lucas Zapalac, Richard Hahn, William Forrester and Jerson Uriostegi in addition to Tanner Ellis and Ryder Ramierez’s interceptions. These Tigers move to 5-0 on the season.
A-teamers from seventh grade won by a final score of 19-6 with Jeffery Neu crossing the goal line twice. Jackson Burttschell and Reid Miller also connected with an aerial touchdown. The offensive line of Ray Ellis, Daniel Barrera, Shamar Taylor, Jose Espinose, Kyle Willingham, Rylan Reichardt and Anthony Reyes took care of business to secure the victory.
On the other side of the ball, it was Cade Langton, Jake Dickens, Maurice Wigfall and Drayton Mazac that shut things down, only allowing six points to improve their record to 4-1.
Seventh graders on the B Team grinded out a 6-0 win with a David Kainer-Blake Pleasant connection serving as all it took to grab another win. Zachary Barrientos, Cobin Stembridge and Michael Bartlett all supplemented the offensive attack that continued to bleed out the clock, further distancing Wharton.
Ja’Quavean Wilson, Michel Castillo and James Ledger tamed the opposing Tigers to stay unbeaten with a 5-0 record heading into the final game of the season.
