Junior high basketball bests Wharton

The junior high boys’ basketball team went on the road for the penultimate game of the season and a pair of teams walked away victorious, starting with the A-team from eighth grade.

Ryder Ramirez continued his offensive output with a 21-point effort to help grab a 37-31 win. D’vonne Hmielewski, A’vonte Nunn, Mason Klotz and Layne Knapp provided the stifling defense to secure the victory, pushing the overall record to 10-1.

The B-teamers from eighth grade won by a narrower margin, 29-26. Amador Lopez led the charge with 14 points while Blake Svoboda and Colby Eschenburg supplied performances that ensured victory, making their record 8-3 now.

The seventh grade A-team fell by a 34-26 score which moves their record to 7-4 overall. Reid Miller, Kevin Koppen and Ray Ellis were some of the highlighted players.

While the boys were away the girls stayed home to square off with Wharton and both seventh grade teams ended the night victorious.

The B-team won in dominating fashion, 30-2, with Lexi Trevino leading Sealy scorers with eight. Eva Knuckles and Savannah Henning poured in four apiece while Annabelle Williams and Bailey Lopez provided the shutdown defense that allowed only one basket to be scored all night.

The A-team found themselves in a more tightly-contested battle but still came out on top, 34-21.

Colette Kelley led scorers in black and gold with nine and had Emersyn Cryan (8), Savannah Hill (7) and Camarie Santos (6) hot on her heels.
