It’s nothin’ but fun at 91 with this year’s Austin County Fair & Rodeo.

And what is more fun than not one but TWO rodeos and mutton bustin’ contests for the kiddos! Since the Fair has grown to two weekends and the little cowboys and cowgirls love our Lil’ Wrangler Rodeo, Stick Horse Rodeo and Mutton Bustin’ events so much, we’re having them all during this year’s fair.

The Lil’ Wrangler Rodeo was one of the favorites during the Summer Music fests, so we’ve added it to the first weekend of the fair called Fair Fest. On Saturday, Oct. 6, at 4 p.m., kids ages 3-6 will get it started with the Chicken Scramble, Hay Hauling, Boot Scramble and Goat Ribbon Pulling. Kids ages 7-10 years old will then compete in the Chicken Scramble, Hay Hauling, Boot Scramble and Calf Scramble. Registration is 3 to 4 p.m. in the Harold Luhn Lamb & Goat Barn with all events beginning at 4 p.m. All participants will receive a t-shirt. First, second and third place winners of each event will receive medals.

Then, the second Saturday of the Fair, Oct. 13, bring your little cowboy and cowgirl back out for the Stick Horse Rodeo. If they are between the ages of 3 and 8, join us at the Austin County Livestock Barn Show Ring to enter the rodeo on Saturday, Oct. 13, 2018. You can participate in three timed events: Barrel Racing, Pole Bending, and Goat Ribbon Racing. Three age divisions: 3-4 years old, 5-6 years old, 7-8 years old – limited to 20 Contestants per age division. Registration begins at 1:30 p.m. The Stick Horse Rodeo begins at 2 p.m. A parent must accompany each child to sign a release form prior to the contest. No child will be allowed to participate without a parent/guardian’s signature on the release form. Fastest time overall in each age division wins. Prizes will be given to first, second and third place. All contestants will receive a T-shirt.

Now if that’s not enough, hold onto your hats, because Mutton Bustin’ isn’t just once during this year’s Fair – it’s going to be held twice! That’s right! Immediately following both the Lil’ Wrangler Rodeo and the Stick Horse Rodeo will be Mutton Bustin’! Registration for Mutton Bustin’ will begin after 4:00 pm. You must be 4 years old to participate and not over 55 lbs. Entries are limited to the first 40 kids to register. Child must be present to register and will be weighed. No pre-registration allowed. First place will receive a belt buckle and medal. Second and Third place will receive medals. All participants will receive a T-shirt.

The Austin County Fair Association is looking forward to having all of the little cowboys and cowgirls and their families out to the 91st Austin County Fair!! Grab your cowboy boots and hats and join us for a day full of fun and exciting events!
